FAQs

VRS

Video Relay service is when the people that want to communicate are located separately from each other. The British Sign Language user and the interpreter communicate over a secure video call, and the interpreter relays everything that is signed to the hearing person, the conversation relays back and forth from BSL to English and English to BSL.

VRI

Video Remote Interpreting is when the Deaf and hearing parties are together, and to communicate they dial a video interpreter via a computer, tablet or phone. The video interpreter translates between the parties in real-time.

  1. You can provide a client with a link to call you through an interpreter by providing them with the following link: https://connect.interpreterslive.co.uk/vrs?ilc=AnimalBehaviour.

The client will then need to pass your contact number to the video interpreter to connect the call to you.

  1. The video interpreter will then connect the client to you, and you can take your call.
  2. Once the call is done, hang up as normal.
  3. Practitioners will be charged for the duration of the call and invoiced after the call has taken place.
  1. If you’re in-person with a deaf client and need to access a video interpreter, please use this link https://connect.interpreterslive.co.uk/vri_atw. You will need to be using a device that has access to a camera and a microphone to see and hear the onscreen interpreter.
  2. Input your information and select corporate, clicking onto the Animal Behaviour and Training Council under the ‘organisation’ name section and in ‘department’ add the name of your client.
  3. Once connected, you will be taken to the virtual waiting room whilst the call is routed to an available interpreter.
  4. Once connected, place the device in front of the client. The client will sign to the video interpreter, and the interpreter will relay this to you. Your responses will then be translated into BSL through the video interpreter.
  5. Once the call is done, hang up as normal.
  6. Practitioners will be charged for the duration of the call and invoiced after the call has taken place.

InterpretersLive! is a video interpreting service for BSL users provided by Sign Solutions.

You will need to provide the Deaf client with your number to initiate a call to you through an interpreter as the InterpretersLive! service is a web-based video platform unlike apps such as WhatsApp/FaceTime and you are unable to call a web-based service as there is no contact number attributed to this.

Should you wish to contact a client and you have their email address, you can call through to a BSL interpreter on 0121 285 2733 and provide the interpreter with the Deaf clients email and they will then send a link to the Deaf clients email address to join the video interpreted call.

Sign Solutions providers of InterpretersLive! are certified ISO 27001 and ISO 9001, all data is processed and held securely. The ABTC is committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. Should we ask you to provide certain information by which you can be identified when using our website or other services, then you can be assured that it will only be used in accordance with this privacy statement.
